Valley of Fire is a sweet little state park between Mesquite and Las Vegas. In my mind it has two sides. The west is comprised of a multitude of small mountains and puffed mounds of single-color, Jurassic-age sandstone wildly eroded with holes, pock marks and arches. The park road past the visitor center takes you up and through a narrow canyon, past a single canyon teeming with 3,000 year-old rock art and to the east side where a rainbow of layered and swirled sandstone awaits your eyes. It is one of the best concentrations of color and forms I've ever come across, hence my repeat visits.
