Frida Kahlo and the Nickolas Muray Photo Archives

Frida Kahlo.

Her name is synonymous with art, independence, and strong, spirited women. The most famous photographs of Frida were made by Hungarian born Nickolas Muray, who was also her lover and a twice-decorated Olympic fencer. In addition to Frida, Muray photographed 4 American presidents, Monet in his garden and the who's who of actors, literary and sports stars, writers, dancers and even politicians of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. He left a gargantuan library of 17,000+ images, most of which resides at the George Eastman Museum.

I am privileged to be the image manager for the Muray Archives that sees after a small collections of Muray's images of Frida. My tasks are to send digital files of the many Frida images we have to magazines, publishers and other agencies who pay for the privilege of publishing them and to send prints to galleries for sale and to museums for exhibit and collection. We offer Color Carbon prints, Platinum Prints and Silver Gelatin prints (that I made). Nickolas Muray introduced color carbon printing to the United States and was a master printer. I also produce the archive-approved Archival Pigment prints for gallery sales.
